Part 1

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that all human life is sacred

Explain how this teaching influences its attitude to abortion and euthanasia, showing that you have understand other points of view (you should refer to the bible, to the thinking and writing of Christians and the Roman Catholic tradition and writing to illustrate and support what you say).

The word sacred literally means "dedicated to a god or religious purpose". Christians believe human life is scared because it is given by God.

Abortion literally means "Premature expulsion of the foetus from the whom," An abortion is when a pregnancy is ended before a baby, capable of surviving on its own outside of the mothers' body is born". There are two types of abortion there is natural abortion which is where the unborn child is terminated due to medical reasons this is called a miscarriage on the other hand a procured abortion is where it is induced artificially for example an operation to remove the foetus from the mothers whom.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that all life is scared and therefore abortion is morally wrong and unacceptable in all cases because they believe that it is killing. The teaching of the catholic church is expressed in the declaration on procured abortion (1974) in this document, the church points out that respect for human life is not just a Christian duty. Respect for life is deeply embedded in the mind and the heart of the human race. Below are some extracts from this document:-

"From the time that the ovum is fertilised, a life is begun which is neither that of the father nor of the mother. It is rather the life of a new human being with its own growth. It would never have been made human if it were not human already".

""¦. Never under any pretext, may an abortion be resorted, either by a family or by the political authority, as a legitimate means of regulating births".

""¦. This does not mean that one can remain indifferent to these sorrows and miseries, every man and woman with feeling, and certainly every Christian, must be ready to do what he can to remedy them".

There is however one incidence where the Roman Catholic Church agree with an abortion and that is if it is an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is when the mother and child or just the mother will die due to the pregnancy continuing therefore the only solution to the problem being an abortion.

The catholic view to abortion shows in baptism where the baby is blessed and dressed in white and entered into the family of god this shows that the baby is special and that has the right to live a baptism shows that no matter how young you are you are a human being in the eyes of God.

There are however other groups and religions that go against what the catholic church says for example humanists say that abortion should be available on request whenever a women wishes to have one. The protestant church has a similar view to the Roman Catholic Church they say that abortion is wrong but in certain cases is infact acceptable.

Euthanasia literally means "The speeding up of a person's death with or without their will by the use of drugs, neglect, suffocation or some other method" suicide is a form or euthanasia.

There are other groups or religious gatherings that disagree or have different points of views to the Catholic Church for example Methodists believe that some forms of euthanasia are acceptable for instance where a person is so ill that they wish for their life to be ended.

The Roman Catholic Church's view towards Euthanasia is shown in a funeral when the body even though it is dead is still treated with respect and has prayers said the coffin may also be wrapped in a white garment the same as when you were baptised this shows that from the moment you were conceived to the moment you die you are special.

Conclusion to part 1

Both Abortion and Euthanasia are difficult morale problems but the solutions both boil down to whether it is right or wrong to take another persons life. The Roman Catholic Church emphasises in both cases the holiness and sacredness of every human life therefore being completely against abortion and euthanasia in nearly all cases.

Part 2

"God gives life and only God can take it away"

Do you agree or disagree, give reasons for your answer showing you have considered more than one point of view.

I do agree that God gives life because life has to come from somewhere and I believe that it is God however I do not believe that that only God can take it away I believe that life Is a gift from God and once you have received that gift you can do with it as you please for example take your own life. I believe that abortion is wrong because it is killing someone else and that is wrong it is murdering. However I disagree in the sense that if you do take your own life it may have a knock on affect to other people who love and care for you so you will be hurting them. Some people may say the opposite to I that abortion is acceptable however euthanasia is not they would argue that the foetus in the mothers whom is not a human being but for example the old grandma is and so should not be killed
